For more than a hundred years, Wittmann Möbelwerkstätten have been creating traditional, hand-crafted products. Founded in 1896 as a saddlery, the family business began to specialise in the production of high-quality, upholstered furniture in the 1950s. Today, Heinz Hofer-Wittmann and his wife Ulrike Wittmann run the fourth-generation family business. The use of first-class materials, the perfect interplay of form and color in the realisation of designs created by internationally-renowned designers and the application of pure craftsmanship ensure that every genuine Wittmann is irresistibly attractive both visually and in terms of physical comfort.

Handmade furniture
Every piece of Wittmann furniture is made by hand. Carpenters, fitters, upholsterers and stitchers all take part in the creation of an authentic Wittmann. The professional care and accuracy of those craftsmen and craftswomen in conjunction with continual, stringent checking procedures ensure that every genuine Wittman is a perfect item of furniture, skillfully planned down to the smallest detail and processed with true precision.

A genuine Wittmann is more than simply attractive design. Every single piece of furniture is made exclusively by hand with the greatest care, fulfilling its visual promise of quality. The product range of Wittmann Möbelwerkstätten is very wide. You will find armchairs / sofas, elements, sofa-beds, chairs / benches, tables and beds with different kind of materials and designs.

Apropos design: Wittmann Möbelwerkstätten not only has a reputation as a maker of upholstered furniture with a strong focus on good design and exceptionally high-quality standards. The firm is also known for its interest in Austrian design history, shown by its replicas of various Hoffmann pieces (called "Recreation Josef Hoffmann").

The Friedrich Kiesler re-edition - a joint venture between Wittmann Möbelwerkstätten and the Vienna Kiesler Foundation - is not only contributing to the rediscovery of this important Austro-American figure but is also providing impressive proof of the contemporaneity of his designs.

For Wittmann Möbelwerkstätten, Jan Armgardt designed the armchair Sedan - see photo - but also many other pieces of furniture like tables, chairs and so on.

"Furniture fashioner" is what Jan Armgardt calls himself. And furniture stood at the beginning of his professional career: Armgardt, born in 1947, was apprenticed to a furniture builder. After that training, he studied interior decoration before returning to the practical side of furnishing, working for upholsterers, welders and joiners.

With this solid craftsman´s basis, Armgardt founded in 1971, together with a partner, "Workshop Design" and then "Armgardt´s Folding Furniture", both of them companies that designed and marketed component furniture. Since 1974, Armgardt has been a self- employed designer. Besides his interior designs, his experimental activity has also found recognition. Here too, naturally, furniture plays a central role, as with the paper furniture for "Human Touch" or the interior for the world´s most-famous doll: it was Armgardt who created "Barbie´s New Livingroom" for the project "Artists and Designers Form Barbie". He has been guest professor at Aachen Technical College since 1998.
